International student grants

In 2021 CEHD launched the international student initiatives to develop a more inclusive and supportive community for international students.

We are excited to announce the newly established CEHD International Student Grants. A variety of grants support student-led events, academic programs, and career growth. All currently enrolled CEHD international students are eligible to apply.

Types of grants

Activity grant
(up to $350)

This grant supports student programming activities on and off campus to build community within CEHD. These should be student-led and for CEHD international students.

Eligible activities for funding include, but are not limited to:

  • social and community-building events (e.g. coffee-hours, cultural discussion session, watching sports games, community performances, etc)

Eligible fees for funding include, but are not limited to:

  • food and beverage (non alcoholic)
  • goods necessary for the event/activity (e.g. plates and cups)
  • tickets (e.g. sport games, community performance)
  • transportation cost (if needed)

Programming grant
(up to $500)

Student-led seminars, workshops, or panels on special topics related to students’ academic, career, or well being development.

Funds can be used for:

  • Guest speaker honorarium and/or transportation costs
  • food and beverage (non alcohol)
  • goods necessary for the event/activity (e.g. plates and cups)
  • room rental fee

Academic and career development grants
(up to $500)

This grant supports students’ academic and career development opportunities.

Travel

  • Attending a conference (travel costs, conference fee)
  • Non-presenters are welcome to apply.
  • Attending a career development seminar that is relevant to your discipline (travel costs, seminar fee)

Membership fee

  • Membership fee for a academic/professional organization in your discipline

Editing support

  • Editing service fee of your conference proposal, research proposal, dissertation, and/or publication submission.

Other research related activities

  • Funding for research related expenses (e.g., participant honorarium, data collection, transcription, etc)

Q&A

Q: Can I apply for the grant for an activity that has already taken place?

A: Yes, you can apply for past events within the same academic year.


Q: Can we submit a grant for an event off campus?

A: Yes, you can plan off campus events.


Q: Who can be a recommender?

A: Recommenders can be faculty advisors or other faculty who you think would best advocate and support your activity.


Q: Can you wait for a recommender’s submission after the deadline?

A: No, recommenders must submit by the deadline.


Q: Are undergraduate students eligible to apply for academic and career development grants?

A: Yes, undergraduate students can apply for the grants. You are expected to demonstrate how the activity relates to your academic/career goals in the statement of purpose.


Q: Are CEHD students who are NOT international students eligible to apply for the grants?

A: If the applicant is to support or plan an event for CEHD international students, the application may be approved.


Q: Who will review my application?

A: All applications will be reviewed by the CEHD International Student Advisory Group, the group includes CEHD faculty, staff, and students.


Q: If my application is selected, will I receive the full amount which I apply for?

A: The grant review committee reserves the right to adjust the amount awarded to each grant.
