2014 Film Festival
The Tucker Center Film Festival was one of more than 1,000 events taking place across the country for National Girls and Women in Sport Day (NGWSD). Congress has proclaimed this national day each year since 1987. It recognizes the progress of girls and women in sports and the benefits that sports and fitness activities can bring to the lives of all girls and women. The Day is organized nationally by the Girl Scouts of the USA, Girls Incorporated, the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport, the National Women's Law Center, and the Women's Sport Foundation.
The 4th Annual Tucker Center Film Festival was held February 6, 2014, to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sport Day. Our theme this year was "Women in Coaching". ESPN and espnW, as part of the Nine for IX series, granted us permission to show "Pat XO" and "Coach"—two amazing films about legendary women's basketball coaches Pat Summitt and Vivian Stringer. A trailer of From the Rough, a film about the first female to coach a collegiate men's golf team, and a short film from the Alliance of Women Coaches titled "Why Women Coaches Matter" were also shown.
