It is well documented that women's sport and female athletes are underrepresented in the sport media and in mainstream feature films. The Tucker Center Film Festival (TCFF), the first of its kind to highlight women in sport films, was established in 2011 and is presented in conjunction with the annual celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The purpose of the event is to celebrate and create awareness for films and documentaries related to girls and women in sport.

Consistent with our mission to provide outreach and programming for the community The TCFF is free, open to the public, and family friendly.

This year we will be showing two films:

"Game On: Women Can Coach"
While there has been an explosion of women participating in athletics since Title IX, only about 40% of them are coached by women. Game On: Women Can Coach explores the supporting research, dispels false narratives and celebrates female coaching pioneers. Produced with the University of Minnesota’s Tucker Center and tptMN.

"Rise of the Wahine: Champions of Title IX"
Rise of the Wahine: Champions of Title IX" is an edge-of-your-seat David vs. Goliath tale of how culture is transformed and how to rise above the challenges in your life and bring an end to injustice in the world around you. It reveals how, in the years following the Civil Rights movement and the passage of Title IX in 1972, a headstrong African-American female coach, the first Asian-American U.S. congresswoman, and the team captain of a rag-tag female volleyball team, battled discrimination from the halls of Washington D.C. to the dusty volleyball courts of the University of Hawaii, fighting for the rights of young women to play sports. Above all, the film reveals how change-makers overcome injustice with wisdom, an innovative spirit, and without becoming victims to their circumstances.
