Elementary Education Foundations
Our teacher education programs prepare you to be an expert in your field and an effective teacher. The program length varies depending on the subject area you are interested in teaching. Find more information on the benefits of teacher preparation at the U of M.
Prepare to become a licensed teacher for ages birth to 3rd grade, or work in educational settings like early learning centers or organizations where a teaching license is not required.
Prepare to become a licensed elementary education teacher or work in educational and social service organizations that support children and families.
Prepare to become a licensed teacher of students with disabilities in grade K through age 21. Earn your bachelor's degree and teaching license in four years.
If you are interested in teaching middle or high school students in subjects like math and science, or in specialty areas such as English as a Second Language or arts education, first choose a major that supports the subject you want to teach. Once you’ve obtained your bachelor’s degree, you may apply to one our combined master’s/teaching licensure programs.
DirecTrack to Teaching is a pre-teaching program for current U of M students interested in teaching secondary or K-12 subjects and keeps you on track for the combined master’s/teaching licensure program.
