About me

I was born and raised in Louisville Kentucky. My family sent me to Minnesota because I had dropped out of college to be in love. I was sent here to live with my great-aunt who was the first black social worker hired by Hennepin County. While working full time as a bank teller I earned my undergraduate degree from Augsburg College (University). I majored in Secondary Education with a minor in Theology. Although I have never spent a day in the classroom teaching, I enjoyed an amazing career in youth work, working with young people in crisis and transition both here and in southern California where I lived for a time. While in California I earned a Master of Science in Human Services Community Counseling and Psychology from Springfield College.

Since returning to the twin cities I have earned a second graduate degree from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities, worked in the field of philanthropy, criminal justice, the arts, and the corporate sector. I have my own business as a spiritual wellness consultant where I teach yoga, have a preaching fellowship, and facilitate workshops on Liberation, Healing and Joy. I am passionate about my work as an advisor because I get to help young people navigate their lives from a place of infinite possibility vs. problems.

My life passion and first love language is travel. I love airports and can have fun going most anywhere, especially if I get to use my passport. I have been with My Beloved spouse, Lisa, for over 24 years and we once sold our home and quit our jobs, just to take off and see the world. We traveled for over a year before settling down in the south metro. We love our garden in the spring and summer and then to fly away as much as we possibly can in winter.

I look forward to helping you navigate, think through, and discern your next steps as you journey through your academic career and college experience here at the UofMN.
